Undergang
THE LOFT @ CENTER STAGE | ATLANTA, GA | 11.04.2023
Disgusting Death Metal
Next to an overflowing bathroom is the perfect place to stand for Undergang. Shit, piss and stale beer fill the air as if it were permeating from some desecrated tomb. My nose fills with the stench of the masses. Pungent!
Their sound shakes the room. Cavernous Death Metal with infectious grooves swirl and stomp with an absurd amount of reverb. Beneath the murk is a solid structure to hold everything together. Like rotting flesh hanging in clumps from a skeleton. Gross and slow moving.
If everything is brutal, then nothing is brutal. Balance must be found in order to accent intensity. Undergang understand that it’s not only about how fast you go, but how slow you go. D-beat and single string riffs bookend passages of inaudible sound over blast beats. They hit. Hard.
Between birth and death, structure and chaos, the bathroom and the stage is really where you want to be. Finding Balance somewhere in the middle. Embracing everything life offers. Especially the shit.
