Autopsy
THE LOFT @ CENTER STAGE | ATLANTA, GA | 11.04.2023
There is no cure for being a sick freak.
A dim red light casts a gruesome glow on the stage. Shadows from backlit amps stab towards the crowd. A plastic cup half full of beer flies overhead showering fans and bands in the crowd. You could cut the tension with a dull scalpel. The intro music ends. Autopsy begins.
Autopsy is aware they are Autopsy. From their first song to their latest album they have been refining the same idea. Maybe that’s why after decades of setting the standard for Death Metal they are still unmatched in style. They figured out what works and kept working it. Riff after riff after album after album. Simplifying and refining with a clear vision. It must feel good to have that sort of creative clarity.
It’s proof that not everything needs to be new and original and challenging, looking at you Imperial Triumphant, to have an impact. Sometimes all I want is that same thing. That same order from Taco Bell at 2 AM, that same ice cold can of Diet Mountain Dew from my favorite corner store, those same songs from Severed Survival on repeat. Over and over again. Until my skin begins to rot.
